The Order of the Mass 26 May 2023 Friday of the Seventh Week of Easter (Memorial of Saint Philip Neri, Priest)
ENTRANCE HYMN Holy, Holy, Holy
Holy Holy Holy! Lord God Almighty!
Early in the morning our song shall rise to thee.
Holy Holy Holy, merciful and mighty!
God in three Persons, blessed Trinity!
Holy Holy Holy! All the saints adore thee,
Casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea;
Cherubim and seraphim falling down before thee,
Which wert and art, and ever more shalt be.
Holy Holy Holy! Though the darkness hide thee,
Though the eyes of sinful man thy glory may not see,
Only thou art holy; there is none beside thee,
Per-fect in pow’r, in love, and purity.
Holy Holy Holy! Lord God Almighty!
All thy works shall praise thy name in earth and sky and sea.
Holy Holy Holy, merciful and mighty!
God in three Persons, blessed Trinity!
Priest: In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

O God, who never cease to bestow the glory of holiness
on the faithful servants you raise up for yourself,
graciously grant
that the Holy Spirit may kindle in us that fire
with which he wonderfully filled
the heart of Saint Philip Neri.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, forever and ever.
All: Amen.
First Reading
Acts 25:13b-21(Jesus was dead, whom Paul claimed to be alive.)
A reading from the Acts of the Apostles
King Agrippa and Bernice arrived in Caesarea
on a visit to Festus.
Since they spent several days there,
Festus referred Paul’s case to the king, saying,
“There is a man here left in custody by Felix.
When I was in Jerusalem the chief priests and the elders of the Jews
brought charges against him and demanded his condemnation.
I answered them that it was not Roman practice
to hand over an accused person before he has faced his accusers
and had the opportunity to defend himself against their charge.
So when they came together here, I made no delay;
the next day I took my seat on the tribunal
and ordered the man to be brought in.
His accusers stood around him,
but did not charge him with any of the crimes I suspected.
Instead they had some issues with him about their own religion
and about a certain Jesus who had died
but who Paul claimed was alive.
Since I was at a loss how to investigate this controversy,
I asked if he were willing to go to Jerusalem
and there stand trial on these charges.
And when Paul appealed that he be held in custody
for the Emperor’s decision,
I ordered him held until I could send him to Caesar.”
Responsorial Psalm
Ps 103:1-2, 11-12, 19-20ab
R.(19a) The Lord has established his throne in heaven.
Bless the LORD, O my soul; and all my being, bless his holy name. Bless the LORD, O my soul,
and forget not all his benefits.
R. The Lord has established his throne in heaven.
For as the heavens are high above the earth, so surpassing is his kindness toward those who fear him.
As far as the east is from the west, so far has he put our transgressions from us.
R. The Lord has established his throne in heaven.
The LORD has established his throne in heaven, and his kingdom rules over all.
Bless the LORD, all you his angels, you mighty in strength, who do his bidding.
R. The Lord has established his throne in heaven.

Gospel
Jn 21:15-19(Feed my lambs, feed my sheep.)
Priest: ✠A reading from the holy Gospel according to John
All reply: ✠Glory to you, O Lord.
After Jesus had revealed himself to his disciples and eaten breakfast with them,
he said to Simon Peter,
“Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?”
Simon Peter answered him, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.”
Jesus said to him, “Feed my lambs.”
He then said to Simon Peter a second time,
“Simon, son of John, do you love me?”
Simon Peter answered him, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.”
He said to him, “Tend my sheep.”
He said to him the third time,
“Simon, son of John, do you love me?”
Peter was distressed that he had said to him a third time,
“Do you love me?” and he said to him,
“Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.”
Jesus said to him, “Feed my sheep.
Amen, amen, I say to you, when you were younger,
you used to dress yourself and go where you wanted;
but when you grow old, you will stretch out your hands,
and someone else will dress you
and lead you where you do not want to go.”
He said this signifying by what kind of death he would glorify God.
And when he had said this, he said to him, “Follow me.”
The Gospel of the Lord.
All reply: Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

Preface II of the Ascension of the Lord
(The mystery of the Ascension.)
It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation,
always and everywhere to give you thanks,
Lord, holy Father, almighty and eternal God,
through Christ our Lord.
For after his Resurrection
he plainly appeared to all his disciples
and was taken up to heaven in their sight,
that he might make us sharers in his divinity.
Therefore, overcome with paschal joy,
every land, every people exults in your praise
and even the heavenly Powers, with the angelic hosts,
sing together the unending hymn of your glory,
as they acclaim:
Holy, Holy, HolySanctus (Missa de Angelis)
All: Sanctus, Sanctus, Sanctus Dominus Deus Sabaoth. Pleni sunt caeli et terra gloria tua. Hosanna in excelsis. Benedictus qui venit in nomine Domini. Hosanna in excelsis.
All: Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God of hosts. Heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.
Priest: You are indeed Holy, O Lord,
the fount of all holiness.
Make holy, therefore, these gifts, we pray,
by sending down your Spirit upon them like the dewfall,
so that they may become for us
the Body and + Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.
At the time he was betrayed
and entered willingly into his Passion,
he took bread and, giving thanks, broke it,
and gave it to his disciples, saying:
TAKE THIS, ALL OF YOU, AND EAT OF IT,
FOR THIS IS MY BODY,
WHICH WILL BE GIVEN UP FOR YOU.
In a similar way, when supper was ended,
he took the chalice
and, once more giving thanks,
he gave it to his disciples, saying:
TAKE THIS, ALL OF YOU, AND DRINK FROM IT,
FOR THIS IS THE CHALICE OF MY BLOOD,
THE BLOOD OF THE NEW AND ETERNAL COVENANT,
WHICH WILL BE POURED OUT FOR YOU AND FOR MANY
FOR THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS.
DO THIS IN MEMORY OF ME.
Priest: The mystery of faith.
(The Mystery of Faith)
All: We proclaim your Death, O Lord, and profess your Resurrection until you come again.
Priest: Therefore, as we celebrate
the memorial of his Death and Resurrection,
we offer you, Lord,
the Bread of life and the Chalice of salvation,
giving thanks that you have held us worthy
to be in your presence and minister to you.
Humbly we pray
that, partaking of the Body and Blood of Christ,
we may be gathered into one by the Holy Spirit.
Remember, Lord, your Church,
spread throughout the world,
and bring her to the fullness of charity,
together with Francis our Pope
and N. our Bishop, [and his assistant Bishops]
and all the clergy.
Remember also our brothers and sisters
who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection,
and all who have died in your mercy:
welcome them into the light of your face.
Have mercy on us all, we pray,
that with the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God,
with blessed Joseph, her Spouse
with the blessed Apostles,
and all the Saints who have pleased you throughout the ages,
we may merit to be coheirs to eternal life,
and may praise and glorify you
through your Son, Jesus Christ.
Through him, and with him, and in him,
O God, almighty Father,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
all glory and honor is yours,
for ever and ever.
All: Amen.

Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us.
Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, grant us peace.
Priest: Behold the Lamb of God,
behold him who takes away the sins of the world.
Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb.

FINAL HYMN 奇妙救恩 (Amazing Grace)
Amazing grace how sweet the sound, That saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now I'm found, Was blind but now I see.
‘Twas grace that taught my heart to fear, And grace my fears relieved;
How precious did that grace appear, The hour I first believed!
Through many dangers, toils, and snares I have already come;
This grace hath brought me safe thus far, And grace will lead me home.
When we’ve been here ten thousand years, Bright, shining as the sun,
We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise, Than when we first begun.
EAO COOPERATORS CONGRESS - EVENING PRAYERS MAY 26, 2023
Quieting Moment: Background Music
INTRODUCTORY RITUAL
Leader:Father of all goodness and grace, we come in your presence tonight as your chosen people called to be like the yeast among the youth. Our hearts are overflowing with gratitude and joy as one family of Salesian servants journeying together towards the fulfillment of Your Kingdom in our respective Provinces. Our first day of encounter with the different members of the EAO Region gives us all that eagerness and appreciation of how You have been blessing each of us in our role in the Salesian Family, as sons and daughters building and working together to make every human being feel and recognize Your Son in a more credible way.
(Background music: “Chariots of Fire”?) (Three representatives: a Sister, a Priest and a Cooperator– stand at the beginning of the procession with small glass bowls containing yeast and salt, and a lighted candle.)
Leader: Yeast… light… salt. Everyday elements we often take for granted but used by Jesus in the Gospel as metaphors for those who choose to follow Him. Silently carrying out their primary purpose, they provide our table with bread and our meals with savor; they dissipate darkness with every light they lit. Christians, too, are enjoined to bring joy, zest and enlightenment to the world through the faith-filled and generous fulfillment of the duties of their state in life.
(Person bearing yeast walks ahead of the other two as all three move to the front to place their symbols at the foot of Mary’s statue on the stage):
Leader: Please all stand:
Gospel Reading: Luke 13:20
Reader 1: A reading from the Holy Gospel according to St. Luke.
Again, Jesus said, “To what shall I compare the kingdom of God? It is like yeast that a woman took and mixed in with three measures of wheat flour until the whole batch of dough was leavened.”
The Gospel of the Lord.
Intercessions:
Leader: As one EAO Region gathered to celebrate the good things we have received from our God, let us confidently lift our prayers to Him as we say,
God of goodness, hear us.
For our Holy Father, Pope Francis who, as leaven of holiness, guides the Church with wisdom and fortitude of the Spirit, we pray…
God of goodness, hear us.
For the Rector Major, Ángel Fernández Artime who animates the Salesian Family to be leaven of unity as we carry out our educative mission in synodality, we pray…
God of goodness, hear us.
For all SDBs around the world, who, in their ministry mirrors Don Bosco as leaven of loving kindness, we pray…
God of goodness, hear us.
For all FMAs, enriching the Salesian Family like our Blessed Mother as leaven of tenderness and communion, we pray...
God of goodness, hear us.
For all the Provincial and Local Councilors in the EAO Region, who strive to be leaven of harmony in respective Provinces and local centers, generating life according to the charism of Don Bosco and Mother Mazzarello, we pray…
God of goodness, hear us.
For our government leaders who, as leaven of integrity, strive to serve for the good of the people in spite of the various challenges they encounter, we pray…
God of goodness, hear us.
For all our family members, benefactors and friends who, as leaven of generosity, share their resources for the fulfillment of our mission for the young, we pray…
God of goodness, hear us.
For the young entrusted to us who, as leaven of hope, courageously respond to God’s call to holiness and service, we pray…
God of goodness, hear us.
For all of us present here who, as leaven of commitment, strive to say yes to be the yeast in the human family today, we pray…
God of goodness, hear us.
Leader: May our prayers of thanksgiving be pleasing in your sight, O Lord, so that we may receive from your mercy the love we need to be sharers of hope and joy to one another. We ask this through
Christ Our Lord. Amen. Leader: We, your children, unworthy though we are, yet we humbly acknowledge your Holy Spirit’s steering in each of the representative present in this EAO Congress. Our shared experiences show us that You are constantly working in and through people’s lives throughout the world. May our coming together as a family strengthen us in our continuous dedication of forever saying YES to Your holy will in the here and now of our history as a Church.
We lift all these in the name of Your beloved Son Jesus Christ who gathers and leads us all to your Kingdom where love is the rule and forgiveness is forever. This we pray through the powerful intercession of Our Lady Help of Christians. AMEN.
Unprocessed wounds would be transmitted to others. This reminded me of encounters i had with young people who are struggling and continue to struggle because of experiences of violence made against them.
Mary, a young religious, Mark, a seminarian and John, an out of school youth. Identified in the community to be difficult individuals, they were not only hiding their dark secrets; they are also hurting other young people close to them.
Today 2 out of 3 under ages 12-17 are victims of abuse. How can we help young people who are having difficulties because of a past that left them alone and broken?
As Salesian Cooperators, called to be yeast in the human family, we are not only prepared to be educators of the heart, we are also tasked to prepare people especially the young for the world of today. We are challenged to a point of no return to decide and open ourselves to new horizons for the charism of Don Bosco with the path that the church is taking on - in this case through SAFEGUARDING otherwise we become irrelevant and be extinct in the years to come.
Let us make a bold statement in defense of the young in our own capacity as lay people. Let us be advocates to Break the Silence against violence by creating venues for safe disclosures of abuses made against children and youth. As an association working for them, let us promote child safety and protection by creating and adopting a child protection policy in our local centers. In doing this, we will be guided what to do, where to find help, or how to do about when faced with the issues of protecting the young in our journey of sanctifying the world from within.
In my journey of embracing the ultimate goal of Don Bosco's mission of salvation for the young and the transformation of society, i had discovered first and foremost that first step begins with me - by owning the mission, discovering my giftedness with tireless diligence and practicing resilience in the face of obstacles - indeed i had witnessed how my little contribution come a long, long way when connected to a network of help.
After bravely admitting that they needed help, supported by their families and communities, Sister Therese is now undergoing rehabilitation. Seminarian Mark requested for regency to allow healing while John reported to be at peace with himself and now dreams of going back to school. In time, when their wounds would heal, they can also transmit healing.
Though the task of helping the young is overwhelming and enormous. Just like the young girl who was seen by many picking up and throwing back each starfish she finds among the hundreds others washed up during a terrible storm. When told by a bystander that she cannot save all these starfish, after feeling crushed and deflated, she bent down, picked up another starfish and threw it back into the sea. Looking up at the bystander, she replied, "Well, i made a difference for that one!"
Who knows, the difference we made for the last, the least, and the lost is actually our only salvation, too.
Goodnight!
