Prof. Imelda Dela Cruz Benitez-Dometita is a fulltime faculty member of Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) under the Department of Mass Communication. She is a licensed professional teacher (LPT). She holds an MA degree in Communication from PLM and is currently pursuing her PhD in Communication at Polytechnic University of the Philippines Graduate School (PUP-GS).
A late bloomer in the academe, she started teaching in 2013 and brought with her the rich experience of longtime works in development with foreign donors/embassies namely New Zealand Agency for International Development (NZAID), Australia Aid for International Development (AusAID), Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA); national government namely National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) and Philippine Commission on Women (PCW); national and Asia regional NGOs where she contributed in the delivery of development assistance to priority sectors and areas in the Philippines and in the Asia region.
For her media practice, Prof. Benitez-Dometita is a film reviewer with MTRCB deputy accreditation since 2007 to present; she anchored Sunday Radio Program for 10 years over DZIQ INQ 990 from October 2010 til March 2020; a scriptwriter for radio soap drama aired in DZRH in the 90s. Her published works include a handbook on gender-responsive cooperatives in 1998, Salesian Cooperators regional conference souvenir book in 2014, and various written articles for institutional magazine Salesian publication. Her passion and advocacy include responsible media, youth formation, gender equality, environment protection, voluntarism, and development communication.
After three (3) years of preparation, Meldy took her oath of lifetime Promise to the vocation of a Salesian Cooperator in February 17, 1996. Was Local Coordinator of ASC Tondo 1997-2000, and of ASC Makati 2008-2014. Has been a member of Provincial Council in-charge of Youth and Formation in 2000-2005 and 2008-2014. She is now completing her term since 2017 as Provincial Coordinator.
A product of public education and a Catholic by religion, Meldy was born and raised in Tondo, Manila by parents, the late Lope B. Benitez and Adela G. Dela Cruz with siblings Victor Sr., Irene, Ma. Melinda, Helen and Ma. Nancy. She is married to Engr. John C. Dometita.
